In Her Shoes Home

Never Can Say Goodbye

By  |

Shhhhh. Do you hear that? It’s the sound of silence in homes across America in the time slot that Oprah used to occupy. While it’s not necessarily a welcomed silence, it’s one that we’re going to have to accept. I mean come on, ladies. Did we really think someone as innovative as O was going to keep doing this ’til the wheels fell off? Of course not! She’s the ULTIMATE fly female entrepreneur so she’s taking a cue from some of the small screen’s greatest contenders (i.e., The Cosby Show) and exiting on a high note.

As a PR exec and lover of quotes, I’m finding comfort in the fact that Oprah has left us with a lifetime supply of thought-provoking sound bites – oh, and that new hobby she’s taken up. I think she calls it OWN? Following are just a few of my favorite Oprah quotables…

On making choices:

I believe the choice to be excellent begins with aligning your thoughts and words with the intention to require more from yourself.

On success:

Energy is the essence of life. Every day you decide how you’re going to use it by knowing what you want and what it takes to reach that goal, and by maintaining focus.

On living your best life:

I believe that everyone is a keeper of a dream – and by tuning into one another’s secret hopes, we can become better friends, better partners, better parents, and better lovers.

So tell me, what do you have planned for that hour you’ve set aside for the last couple decades watching The Oprah Winfrey Show? Even if you’re like me and didn’t watch it every single day, you’ve probably still invested a lot of time in O at some point whether it was catching the “special” episodes via DVR or tuning in for its late night airing. In honor of the queen of media, we’ve got to do something purposeful, something life-altering, and something that benefits not just ourselves, but mankind. I’m up for the challenge. Can you say the same?

Oprah is an amazing woman who has inspired us all but remember: the power to be awesome resides within YOU!

She has been a huge inspiration in my life too. And watching the final episode now reminded me I wanted to share some of my favorite Oprah words too: “Everybody just wants to be heard. Toni Morrison said that what every child wants to know is, do your eyes light up when I enter the room? Did you hear me and did what I say mean anything to you? That’s all they’re looking for. That’s what everybody is looking for…”
Thank you Renae and In Her Shoes for listening and going a step beyond that to helping voices be heard.

Let your light shine. Shine within you so that it can shine on someone else. Let your light shine. ~ Oprah
