An Ode to OWN
Dear OWN,
After years of planning and months of anticipation, you have finally arrived! Welcome to my world you sweet, beautiful thing. You’re only a few days old but already, you’ve touched my life in a way that I hadn’t imagined. You’ve given this woman who rarely watches television and has for months, contemplated cancelling her overpriced and underused cable subscription, a reason to believe in the power of quality programming.
Like a breath of fresh air, you’ve given life to the small tube by delivering meaningful and mindful content that truly makes me think. Yes, your mother is Oprah Winfrey, the first black woman billionaire and FLYEST female entrepreneur of them all, but you resonate with people, not just women, of all ethnicities. You are singlehandedly showing go-getters across the globe that we can accomplish whatever it is we put our minds to.
Where have you been all of my life? Tuning in to Oprah for an hour a day was one thing but turning on my television and seeing you, a woman who looks like me, with her OWN network is beyond inspiring!
I understand that you are a work in progress but in a short time you’ve solidified your spot as the ultimate brand extension. When I look at you I see SO much promise. You practice what you preach. You seek your own truth and try to be your OWN best self.
Thank you. Thank you. Thank you for helping me kick off this new decade with a renewed sense of drive and purpose. I can’t wait to see how you and your multimedia mogul mama evolve and grow.
OWN, I won’t just watch you, I will embrace you.
With awe & affection,
Renae
