Michelle vs. Oprah?

By  |

All I can do is shake my head in response to the media’s latest (self-produced) frenzy: Michelle Obama vs. Oprah Winfrey. Are they serious?

Yes, Michelle is taking the world by storm with her intelligence, grace, and impeccable style but there is room at the top for more than one amazing woman (who happens to be black) isn’t there? Why are we comparing apples and oranges anyway? If we  had to compare Michelle to anyone wouldn’t it be a bit more appropriate to compare her to another first lady/lawyer/political leader like Hillary Clinton?

Michelle and Oprah are both very special in their own rights but as far as I’m concerned, strong black women have always had an impact on the global community. What say you?

As a New York City storyteller, filmmaker, digital content creator, and PR strategist, Renae Bluitt created "In Her Shoes" to empower and enlighten women committed to realizing their dreams.

I very much agree with you on this topic…both of these BEAUTIFUL, EDUCATED black woman are so special and strong in their own right. There is no need for competition but of course the media would try to put them against one another. How silly and ignorant will they continue to be when it comes to the African American community? More than anything, these women should be complimented for their success. African American women have always had a phenomenal impact on the world from politics (Ellen Johnson, President of Liberia) to music (Aretha Franklin, Nina Simone), to education (Marva Collins) and the list could go on for days. MICHELLE & OPRAH are my heroes and I am so happy and proud that one day when I have a little girl, she can look at a first lady that looks like her!

We all know that if the dominating culture’s media says that it is so then it has to be right. Right? Wrong! If they did not create her and determine her title then in their small minds, she’s a no body until they define who she is and that‘s why the media keeps trying to give her a category to place her into.

No one is listening to the media and now many people are beginning to define what life means to them, what they deem as beautiful, what they choose to buy, etc. There is always room at the top for both of them. Leave it to the media to ensure that the masses are continually alienated.

This is just silliness. There is room for Oprah and Michelle and all those other fab sistahs out there.

Oprah and Michelle are two wonderful examples of what Black women could and should become. They are both wonderful role models and it is truly beautiful that there is more than one such strong Black woman for the little girls of the the world to look up to… hopefully the number of real life role models will continue to increase.

Word up! You know what it is. The media only does what they do best…instigate and create drama!
