I know I haven’t written an In “His” Shoes piece in a while, but I would be remiss not to share this awesome project with you! What happens when a medical doctor, a youth leadership executive and a renowned international photographer team up to make a difference in the world? The GLOBAL EMPOWERMENT PROJECT is born.

As the world focuses attention on social ills, a group of Brooklyn-based activists and philanthropists have launched a new “socially relevant” television series. Producers are actively raising funds to complete the series pilot, currently in production. Each episode will combine international travel adventure with philanthropic service — a mixture rarely experienced in mainstream media. Another strong focus of the show content is promoting volunteerism, philanthropy and community empowerment through health and wellness activities.

The GLOBAL EMPOWERMENT PROJECT will be shot on location throughout parts of Haiti, a country still riddled with socio-economic challenges following the 5-anniversary of the earthquake that hit the region in 2010. The partners and co-producers, Dr. Robert Gore (emergency medicine physician, global health advocate and KAVI- Kings Against Violence Initiative founder), Brian “Deka” Paupaw (artist, film-maker, Hoods to Woods founder) and Marc Baptiste (philanthropist, celebrity and fashion photographer) teamed up to help pool their talents and love for the local & global community, to inspire a global movement of change. The theme of giving back and enjoying the environment, will run throughout the series, which they hope to shoot in disparate communities in the United States and abroad over the next several months.

Kickin’ it with Dr. Gore!

“We are excited about this project, not only because we are adventurers but because we care about the plight of youth and families in impoverished communities throughout the world. Through this project, we want to highlight how change is happening, ways that people can support, and the physical beauty and national resources that many of these countries have to offer. We capture that imagery on tape with amazing photography and interviews, with hopes that people will see the rewards of giving back to those in need and literally take action. It’s where culture meets cause, and that’s makes it interesting and unique for us.”

The group is currently working to raise $25,000 as their fundraising goal to help with production and post-production costs of the series pilot. The goal is to complete the pilot this summer and continue their philanthropic efforts and use the show to raise awareness and spawn others into action. As of May 12, 2015, GLOBAL EMPOWERMENT PROJECT has raised nearly $19,500 of their $25,000 goal. They’re almost at the home stretch but need YOU to help reach and exceed their goal.
