Slumpville

By  |

“Slam!” is what you do after wrestling with your phone for 15 minutes to silence your morning alarm. You roll over to see the morning sun trying to peek through your bedroom window. You glare at the ray of light as it dances on your wall. You feel indifferent. Trying to appreciate the new day that you’ve received you can’t help but to feel slightly melancholy as you think of your past, present and future days. Being in a rut or a slump has its effect if we stay in that state for too long. Here are three sure ways to shake it off and let it go:

Back to the Basics- A lot of times when we get in a slump it’s because we have put our passion, dreams, and visions on the back burner. We know it’s hard to balance, career, family and personal time. In order for you to make sure you’re working in your purpose on your life it always needs to be in the front of your mind.

A Dose of Inspiration– Slumpville is a state of mind where you have been seeing, doing , and hearing the same things over and over in repetition. We should grasp for something new every day. If it’s indulging in a new book or discovering a new song you love. Expanding the mind always allows the spirit to get excited about something fresh in your life.

It’s the Little Things– Guess who receives a gift every day? You! Yes, that’s right each day you treat yourself. I’m not talking about swiping the credit card at the nearest Saks but little thing that bring you true joy. If it’s lip synching to a good ol’ Anita Baker record or a walk in the park while daydreaming for 15 minutes, you should always give yourself a small token of appreciation.

So yes, Slumpville is a destination. It’s a place we all visit for a couple of days but ideally, never stay for long. Realize that you’re not happy and look at your life to see what needs to be altered.  You are with yourself all day, every day. Make your life full of intensity and happiness.  Take the time to learn what truly brings a smile to your face and make it a habit!
