Shed the Mask

By  |

This past week I was blessed to see a new side of  two women in my life who I respect and love dearly. Both women are extremely successful in in their respective careers and have created a lifestyle for themselves that seem almost perfect. Ever since I was a young girl I viewed them as superwomen  who could never be broken down. In my head they both had laser beams of defense that blocked them from being hurt, disappointed and the worse of all vulnerable.  In the very same week I saw both women slowly shed their masks and reveal that life is not as easy as it might seem. They were both dealing with personal and career issues that had reached the point where that they couldn’t fake it anymore.  After they let out every emotion that was pinned up in them I realized that there is beauty in vulnerability.

Life experiences have taught us that to avoid getting hurt we must be defensive and put on a happy face at all times. The problem is that we put on a mask so much, it becomes hard to establish the line of who you truly are and what you are “trying” to represent.  As humans we are all multi-dimensional and were put on earth to give, learn, nourish ourselves and each other. The more honest you are with yourself the better and joyous your life will be.

People often feel that they will lose the respect of others or appear to be weak if they  show  a more vulnerable side. Being honest with yourself and others is simply refreshing. If anything, it will make others connect to you when they see you are not  a robot without feelings. Seeing both ladies in an honest state made me respect them even more to see that they continue to push past life’s hurdles without giving up.

Ladies, it’s time to shed the mask…
