Getting it Write
7 Habits
By: In Her Shoes Contributor, Kamari Guthrie
Have you ever looked at someone who has it all—success, happiness, wealth, family, friends and the like—and wonder if it was by luck that they’ve achieved so much? It’s so easy to grapple with that idea and wonder how people end up where they are. But after reading the 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, by Stephen Covey, I realized it has to do with balance, understanding and habit-forming. Most importantly though, this book explored how effective relationships and interactions can improve your quality of life tremendously. And of course, working in PR, I love that principle!
This book offers the best advice on how to become the person in business you’ve always aspired to be by exploring the traits of successful people. Of course, I’m going to urge you to purchase the book—it’s definitely a must-read. However, I’m sure you want to know what the seven magic habits are. Here’s a quick teaser:
1. Be proactive
2. Begin with an end in mind
3. Put first things first
4. Think Win/Win
5. Seek First to Understand
6. Synergize
7. Renewal
While this may initially sound like a book about how to reach career success or develop the skills to build an empire, it offers a deeper insight into how to achieve full quality of life and well-rounded perspective.
