Meet Vivrant Beauty: Harlem’s New Boutique For All Textures & Skin Tones

Desiree Verdejo, a former corporate lawyer, realized that there is so much more to life than investing tirelessly in a career she was no longer passionate about. After accepting that realization, Desiree started working on her exit from the field of law and entry to the world of infinite possibilities – entrepreneurship.

Harlem born and raised with African-American and Puerto Rican roots, Desiree grew up with a grandmother who never left the house without a beautiful wig and a red lip, and a family full of beauty-loving women of all skin tones and hair textures. The women in Desiree’s family were drawn to pampering and adorning themselves with gorgeous makeup and new hairstyles. Desiree, a self-described beauty junkie, discovered a passion for skincare at a young age and later a love for styling and caring for her natural kinky hair. She was shocked that there was no beauty retailer that allowed her to marry the two, so her dream of creating one began to unfold.

With a passion for all things beautiful and a motivation to empower and be surrounded by motivated women, it didn’t take Desiree long to determine the next chapter in her career. Thus, the concept for Vivrant Beauty was born. After years of hard work, soul searching and exploration, Desiree is excited to do what she loves in a community that she has always called home.

“Opening a beauty business in Harlem that will highlight and support so many independent and women-owned brands is a natural fit,” said Desiree, Founder, Vivrant Beauty. “I’ve learned so much about launching a brand throughout this journey, so in addition to ‘beautifying’ the community, my goal is to share this knowledge and inspiration with others,” she continued.
