In Her Shoes Home
Kudos to Clutch!
If you check in with In Her Shoes regularly, you know that I just blogged about our destiny being “recession-proof,” right? Well, following is a true story of how tenacity, faith and determination – no matter how depressing the media headlines are – can garner success!
My girl Deanna Sutton and her amazing team over at Clutch Magazine have been putting in work, providing women of color with the ultimate online destination for fashion, beauty, life and culture for what seems like forever (but in reality, has been more like two years). Long days and nights, several website upgrades, and enhancements on every level have taken Clutch from a personal blog (“Clutch & Lipglass”) to one of the most popular online magazines this side of the blogosphere.
I’m proud to announce that Deanna’s hard work is paying off as she celebrates Clutch Magazine’s brand new investment deal with Elemental Interactive!
I crossed paths with Deanna a couple years ago while pitching Clutch Magazine for a client’s media relations campaign. Upon chatting, we realized that although we’d never met in person, we’d both left the same global PR agency – in the same year – to pursue our entrepreneurial endeavors! From that point on, we continued to support each other’s businesses and always kept an eye out for opportunities to collaborate.
I’ve had the pleasure of partnering with Clutch Magazine on numerous PR initiatives for clients and can say from first-hand experience that Deanna and her editors truly get it! The magazine intelligently fuses fashion, beauty, music, art, entertainment and political topics to satisfy their reader’s craving for news and up-to-date trends. Clutch’s editorial highlights images and content relevant to and reflective of African American women in a sleek, easy-to-navigate, and aesthetically appealing format.

Elemental Interactive Takes Stake In Clutch Magazine
There’s life yet in online publishing … Digital media consultancy Elemental Interactive has made a strategic investment in Clutch, an online magazine and blog network for African-American women. Elemental (a former division of WPP‘s Grey Global Group), will take an undisclosed stake in Atlanta-based Sutton Media, Clutch’s publisher.
Founded in 2007 as a bi-monthly lifestyle pub, Clutch expanded last year to include four additional blogs, including celeb-focused The Edge. Founder and creative/editorial director Deanna Sutton said the company will use the funds to add new blogs, writers and ad options, including local ads. Relaunched Honey magazine operates in the same space (targeting African-American women aged 18-34), as well as Glam’s Blacklife vertical network.
Deanna Sutton’s FLY FEMALE ENTREPRENEUR interview is coming soon…
I try my best to steer clear of clichés but this one is SO fitting: the sky is NOT your limit, Dede. Congrats!
