In Her Shoes Home
Inspired by: Mrs. Huxtable
So, last night after a conversation about how there aren’t many shows on television these days that can be classified as “must-see TV,” I found myself reminiscing on the good old Cosby Show days. Like clockwork, every Thursday night at 8 p.m. from 1984-1992 I would park myself in front of the television for what felt like the BEST 30 minutes of my young existence!
While I had the biggest crush on Theo and looked up to Denise as a fashion icon, Mrs. Huxtable was truly the star of the show. As the matriarch of the Huxtable household, Claire always displayed an unmistakable elegance and grace, unparalleled by any other sitcom mom before or since. A successful attorney, she played an intelligent, mature counterpart to Bill Cosby’s Dr. Heathcliff Huxtable, an obstetrician with a penchant for silliness.
What’s beautiful about the Huxtable’s relationship is that while she was successful and powerful in her own right, Claire made it clear that she wasn’t a punk yet never made herself superior to her husband in the way that’s so painfully common on television (and in real life) these days. I can’t think of any other situation comedy in which husband and wife were portrayed as being so genuinely HAPPY together.
So yes, ladies and gents…I know it’s 2010 but today your girl is inspired by none other than the amazingly beautiful Mrs. Huxtable. She was loving, intelligent, sophisticated, driven, witty, powerful, and last but not least, drop dead gorgeous. There’s no doubt about it…Claire was and still is a class act! Be inspired…
