Forced Destiny

By  |

Force: power made operative against resistance; exertion.

Have you ever forced something to happen in your life to achieve a particular goal? Oftentimes we set plans and dreams in our minds that may or may not come to fruition. From career choices to what city we’d like to live in or the exact number of children we want to bring into this world, all of these fine details are meticulously planned in our map of life. As goal oriented women, it’s wonderful to be both driven and determined to make it happen but we’ve got to be open to changing paths when the universe points us in a different direction.

Many of us embark on each chapter of our lives thinking we know exactly how the story is going to end. The problem with being so committed to that one particular vision is that you begin to force your destiny, which in many cases causes you to miss out on bigger blessings. Imagine if you launched your career in a corporate setting but your heart was in the arts? What if you turned a blind eye to all of the blatant signs telling you that you were supposed to change fields. Life gives us countless directional cues to guide us on our journeys. Our responsibility is to stay in tune with ourselves to receive proper direction when it’s presented.

Life happens. And when it does, simply allow it to do so. From relationships to career, nothing in your life should feel like you’re forcing it to make sense. Not saying that life is supposed to be easy, but we all know the difference between hard work and continuously beating something until it “fits.” It’s important to keep your goals as an outline of how you’d like things to unfold but we’ve also got to be open to change as well.

As the old saying goes, life is a journey, not a destination. Are you enjoying yours?
