Do You.

There’s no better time than the approaching summer season to take a moment, step back from all of your hard work and focus on “doing you.” Some of the most effective people I know are those who are able to manage their personal lives as well as their business by working hard and playing hard. My company emphasizes the importance of maintaining a balance between a professional and personal life, because the company president (a very fly, female entrepreneur, I must say) understands the value of having cultured, well-traveled and “in-the-know” talent. So, let’s be real—if Jane doesn’t want to be a dull girl, she better get out there and see the world. And I’m encouraging all of you to do just that this summer.

That being said, I know a lot of y’all are probably looking at this with a sideways glance, as you may have been planning a staycation this year. But I’ve got a few quick ideas that may help you kick back, guilt free! If you do nothing else, make sure you stop and look around to enjoy the beautiful season that’s upon us!

1.    Virginia Beach, Cape Charles or Chincoteague Island, VA
Coming from a family full of Virginia natives, I have to mention this state as one of the many cheap vacation options. If you’re like me, your summer would not be the same if it didn’t include long hours spent lying on a beach. As part of the 40th anniversary of the “Virginia is for Lovers” campaign, participating businesses throughout the entire state are offering $40 or 40 percent off discounts on hotels and activities.

2.    Puerto Viejo, Costa Rica

If you’re dying to leave the country, but not living to be broke, try visiting this Caribbean coast of this country. You’ll experience a range of South American, Italian and Costa Rican cuisine and sleep well in bungalows by the beach. The best part—few hotels cost more than $75 a night!

3.     Brigitte Mansfield European Day Spa (NYC) or Le Petit Retreat or Glen Ivy Hot Springs (LA)
OK! So maybe you can’t bare to spend money booking a flight anywhere. You still deserve the treat. Whether it comes in the form of a peel or hot stones, treat your mind, body and skin—you’re guaranteed to feel as good as your girlfriend who just returned from Puerto Rico!
