About a Clothes Encounter

A Clothes Encounter owner Kaira Akita has a long history with fashionable yet affordable clothing. Raised in Germany, she always enjoyed wearing the latest European fashions at a fraction of the cost…thanks to the amazing exchange rate at the time.

Into adulthood, Kaira continued to enjoy consignment, thrift, and vintage shopping to help nourish her insatiable appetite for style. Then, in February 2008, a move to a smaller place forced her to host a huge closet sale. Women not only loved the great deals, they also loved the presentation and asked “when are you holding the next one?”

And from that, A Clothes Encounter was born. Determined to make consignment a chic, viable, and community-focused shopping alternative for women across all social, racial, and economic lines, Kaira introduced the first A Clothes Encounter Luxury Consignment Event with overwhelming success in December 2008.

Our growing success is attributed to our amazing supporters as well as our ability to make consignment fabulous. Forget what you heard about consignment…all of our items are in good style and taste, from the most common name brands to the most luxurious labels, and everything in between.
