Respect My Mind…

“Respect My Mind. Respect My Grind. A woman’s work is never done.” These words are more than just a catchy phrase but a lifestyle that all should embrace. We’re often overloaded with songs, videos and wardrobe dedicated to young men “hustling and grinding” in life.  In all three outlets women are often cast as a support role to the main male character. Unfortunately, our hustle and struggle are overshadowed by our male counterparts. From working hard to open our own business  to climbing up the corporate ladder with a strong work ethic, we grind twice as hard to achieve our goals. Many women strive to do what we love but  are also given the responsibility to be the support system of everyone else’s dream.  We’re often so busy supporting and encouraging others that people often forget about our needs and are struggles.

Men can have the “grind it out” mentality and it is well received. Women can have the same mentality and can be labeled  as “bitter” or “angry” for being focused. It is seen as a surprise to see a determined and courageous woman with a plan. As women we must learn how to support each other and not let other’s hard work hide our trials and tribulations. The strength of the woman is indescribable and our focus is often hard to break.  We must continue to hold our head high and keep on knocking down life’s barriers with elegance and strength. So continue to reach higher and higher everyday. Let’s not allow society’s label or anything else stop us from achieving our dreams or our everyday grind!
