Wanderlust: Amsterdam

Name:

City:

Amsterdam, Netherlands

Hats you rock:

I’m an entrepreneur (founder of The Peoples Agency) and I also work at an amazing new digital ad agency, SuperHeroes Amsterdam.

You’ve got love for your city because:

Nothing in Amsterdam is forced; it’s effortlessly cool and unique.

When it’s time to get to business in a cafe environment, you can be found:

At Café Americain inside the American Hotel. It was build in 1902. I love their art noveau interior. My most memorable meeting so far at Café Americain was with 71-year-old author Gary Goldschneider.

You’ve got the dress and the shoes ready but still need the perfect accessories to complete your look. Where can you find them?

I’ve got to admit, I’m not really into accessories but there are tons of markets such as the Albert Cuyp Market where you can buy pretty, inexpensive ones. Another favorite is the Noordermarkt.

It’s Saturday afternoon and you need a little culture in your life. Your first stop is:

Albert Cuyp market or Dappermarkt are great street markets where you can shop for clothes as well as produce. They sell both local and exotic produce as well as fresh meat and other products for great prices. Once you’re done you can go grab a bite to eat at one of the many small Surinamese restaurants such as Roopram. They have the best roti in the city.

I’d also recommend visiting de Bijlmer. This area in the Southeast section of Amsterdam is comparable to what Bed-Stuy is like in Brooklyn. Many groups of African descent live in this area, representing more than 130 nationalities. To satisfy your sweet tooth I recommend getting a freshly baked Belgian waffle at Australian with a scoop of ice cream and warm chocolate sauce!

The girls want to hang out, listen to music and order a few tasty cocktails. You’re definitely taking them to:

TOKO MC, a great new spot that recently opened in Amsterdam. Great Caribbean food, tasty cocktails, parties and live shows make this place perfect for a girl’s night out.

The best place to sit back and people watch:

Starbucks at Amsterdam Central Station. I’m there quite often for my daily chai tea fix. Hipster chicks, students and tourists hang out there. There were many times when I’ve people watched and thought ”oh this girl looks fly” and then have that girl tell me the exact same thing. I love it when women compliment each other!

Favorite date spot:

Vondelpark (similar to Central Park) is a great place to hang out in the summer.

When it’s networking time for the Fly Female Entrepreneur in Amsterdam, where does she go?

There are so many great events in the city. One of them is New Portfolio Talent Night organized by Blend Magazine. They invite various experts working in different industries to offer advice on how to get started. You can also have them take a look at your portfolio and provide feedback.

Amsterdam’s best kept secret:

The newly built Central Library, not too far from Central Station. It literally has everything! It’s a library, cafe, restaurant, multi-media cafe, museum and gallery all in one. The architecture is amazing, the atmosphere is always great and there are always many things going on such as lectures, live performances, exhibitions and more. Their children’s section is nice as well. You’ll also find a terrace on the 7th floor with an amazing view.

P.S.:

Overdose is a great site to check out to stay updated on everything fashion, culture, music and art in Amsterdam.
