In Her Shoes Home

Until Later, dear Pieces…

By  |

One of my favorite Brooklyn retailers, Pieces Boutique, announced this morning that after 10 years in business, the store will be closing. Not exactly what we wanted to hear during Fashion Week from a boutique that has single-handedly defined sophisticated style for a decade, but change must be embraced. While fashion mavens from Brooklyn and beyond are in mourning, I encourage us to look beyond our personal concerns (like, where am I going to find the perfect New Year’s eve dress this year?!) and consider the world of opportunity that has opened up for Pieces owners, Colin and Latisha Daring (pictured below).

As fashion industry visionaries, the Darings are now released from the limitations of the brick and mortar lifestyle and free to take the Pieces brand to a level we never imagined. It’s all about evolution. I see  so many fabulous things in store for Pieces Boutique and know that this is not the last we’ll see of this iconic Brooklyn brand!

Whether you’re in the fashion or farming industry, there’s a lot to learn from the closing of Pieces Boutique. To evolve (be it professionally or personally) you MUST embrace opportunities for growth. To change your life for the better, you have to introduce a foreign element, trigger or change agent. Shake things up. Do things differently. Adopt an improved mindset. Be a different person. Your life depends on it!

To mark this bittersweet occasion, I thought I’d reflect back on a few Pieces memories in my iPhoto archives:

Latisha + Colin x Vogue. What!? I was so proud of them when I saw this. It was circa ’02/’03. I had just moved to New York and these two truly inspired me!

Pieces Boutique was known for its fabulous soirees. This shot was from the Ashtyn launch party in ’09.

Latisha and yours truly a few years back…her smile is infectious!

Another gorgeous Ashtyn piece…

Here we are again during last year’s Fashion’s Night Out party in the boutique. Great night!

Latisha thanks us all for coming out. She made every single person who walked through the Pieces threshold feel appreciated, welcomed and at home.

Mr. Colin Daring gives us the thumbs up!

Can you say beautiful? This has got to be one of the flyest families I know. Brooklyn royalty!

Colin and Latisha: on behalf of In Her Shoes and Crush Media, I send you lots of love and light as you embark on this new and exciting chapter in your careers. I can’t wait to interview both of you to talk about what’s next!

Much Respect,

*r
