The Kid in You

By  |

We all remember the 90’s Baby Face hit “The Cool in You,” right?  I was thinking the other day that someone needs to put out a remix and title it “The Kid in You.” Now as corny as that may sound, I think it would serve as a great reminder to us when we begin to take life a bit too seriously. I recently attended the I Love My Hair photo shoot. We were surrounded by a sea of energetic bright-eyed children. The photographer made a comment that replayed in my mind. He simply stated:

Look at all of these care-free children. It’s so funny that they’re all fighting to be grown while we’d give anything to get back to our childhood days.

I simply smiled and agreed, remembering my days of wishing I would wake up as a 10-year-old girl again, not having to be bogged down with life’s responsibilities.

Even though we cannot physically revert back or even fully psychologically completely abandon our adult mentality, we can still a keep in touch with our dreams and our creative spirit.  We often fall into a cycle of  seeing everything from a jaded point of view because we’re trapped in our “grown folks” issues and problems of the world.  In times like these, we should be able to trigger our “inner kid.”  I’m sure you’re asking, what does the “inner kid” consist of?

Well, tapping into your “inner kid” means being able to appreciate the simplest things in life like a colorful flower, an unusual cloud, or a delicious dessert. The power to switch the mind from your weekly to-do list to indulging in the actual moment, is a trait that’s much needed for the woman on the go. The most important “inner kid” trait is the ability to stay so connected to your dream that it has the power to continuously become reality. As we get older, holding on to our dreams becomes an almost impossible trait. Our young “idealist” mentality has transitioned to a “realist” mindset which often blocks how far and big we can dream.

Whether you’re 7or 70, there should never be a limit to how big, wide and spectacular you see yourself!

Think big. Dream bigger!
