Mara Brock Akil on “Being Mary Jane” (Video Interview)

By  |

Sunday evening I had the pleasure of attending BET’s screening for Mara Brock Akil’s latest film (and soon to be television series), Being Mary Jane, featuring Gabrielle Union. We all know Mara Brock Akil, right? She’s one of Hollywood’s flyest power brokers. She’s the creator of one of my all time favorite television shows, Girlfriends, and to be quite honest, she’s the baddest chick in the game. With a natural beauty that glows from within and a sincerity that’s equally refreshing, Mara sat down with In Her Shoes after her New York City screening at the Tribeca Grand Hotel to share the inspiration behind Being Mary Jane. We discussed why it’s so important for women to start having real conversations about our  journeys and life’s imperfections. Like a true girlfriend, Mara also reveals how sex and physical intimacy with her husband and business partner, Salim Akil, is her secret to personal and professional success. She keeps it spicy ladies so take notes and enjoy!
