What do you get when you put together a panel with six of the hottest beautypreneurs in the industry? Jewels. Yes, jewels! Supreme words of wisdom to fuel your success. On Wednesday evening, Renae Bluitt, creator of In Her Shoes hosted a panel with the beauties and brains behind your favorite brands sharing tips on defying the odds and coming out on top. The discussion was honest, laced with lots of wisdom, humorous at times, and nothing short of amazing. Over 150 beauty, fashion, and lifestyle mavens mixed and mingled, networked, and enjoyed the conversation while indulging in wine and sweet bites from Evelyn’s Kitchen and Signature 7 Dessert Studios.

As the panel started, a hush came over the room which included New York City tastemakers Michaela Angela Davis, the Curly Girl Collective, Niki Robinson of Chicagolicious, and Yahzarah, just to name a few. The “dream team” panel consisted of: Lisa Price, the fragrance-loving head of Carol’s Daughter; Kim Roxie, the spunky personality behind LAMIK Beauty; Tricia Lee, Polish Bar of Brooklyn’s brand building mastermind; Ginger Johnson and Sara Liz Pickett, the dynamic duo of non-toxic nail lacquer brand, Ginger + Liz; and walking beauty-pedia Tia Williams of Shake Your Beauty and The Fly Cut. You could literally hear a pin drop as panelists dished out the real deal behind their success and career challenges. Priceless takeaways from the night included: “determine what you’re most passionate about and decide what you want to do. You have the right to change your mind down the road” from Tricia Lee and “owning your name allows you to have leverage among noisy investors” from Lisa Price. The commonality between each woman’s story was quite simple: in order to find success, you MUST do what you love.  If you’re not willing to give up many of life’s luxuries (i.e., a “normal” social life, shopping trips, vacations, and oh yes, sleep) to build your brand, entrepreneurship may not be the best fit.

While hard work was the underlying message the fun didn’t stop. Recording artist Res DJ’d and provided the evening’s soundtrack, “Street Style” shots were captured for essence.com, and Mane Moves TV documented it all to create the official post event video. Guests left with gift bags filled with EDEN BodyWorks, Carol’s Daughter, Lamik Beauty, Anu Essentials, and the latest issue of Juicy Magazine. If you’re not based in New York City or simply weren’t able to join us don’t fret!  The official “Beauties & Brains Behind the Brands” recap video will be shared shortly. Until next time, beauties!
