Carpe Diem!

By  |

In case you haven’t heard, tomorrow is “Judgement Day” and the world as we know it is coming to a screeching halt. Well, if Harold Camping is on the money, there are going to be a lot of regretful people among us who haven’t lived (as our girl Oprah would say), their BEST lives. I know it’s challenging to live your “best” life when you’re facing adversity or dealing with the day-to-day challenges (or “opportunities”) of adulthood, but let’s face it, the things that we obsess about work themselves out whether we lose sleep over them or not.

To Mr. Harold Camping and his devout followers I say “thank you.” As a result of your prediction, be it accurate or not, men and women across the globe are hopping off the hamster wheel of life and truly giving thought to their existence. The simple thought of tomorrow being the beginning of the end is a blessing in disguise for those who aren’t “living” but just getting by. Should we still be here tomorrow and through the Fall (the exact prediction states that the world will end over the course of several months: May 21 – October 21), we’ve essentially been given a new lease on life.

You know that business concept you’ve been thinking about but haven’t acted on? It’s time to make it happen. What about the movie script that’s been residing on your laptop for the last few years? Yes, that one. We want to see it! It’s time to live life to the fullest and bring some dreams to fruition. Following are five quick and easy tips on how to do so:

1. Carpe Diem: Each day is a fresh start with new options and possibilities just waiting to be explored. Let’s view life as an action-packed movie and write our own scripts!

2. Take Baby Steps: Look at your life as it is now. Look for regrets, look for hopes, look for dreams, even the ones that seem to be completely out of reach. Now think about what you can do right NOW to move one step closer to them.

3. Keep it Moving: Don’t waste your precious energy agonizing over things you can do nothing about. And if you can do something, why aren’t you doing it? Remove the word BUT from your daily dialogue and see how quickly things change.

4. Let go to grow: While seizing the day for some means literally that, for others it means letting go of past hurt, mistakes and making constructive choices to heal and grow.

5. Pay attention: I know that life is moving at a ridiculously rapid rate, but when you see something beautiful, stop for a moment to take it in and appreciate it. If you see a man with a gorgeous smile, tell him. When an old friend calls, even if you can only speak for a few minutes, give her your full attention. That way you both walk away feeling connected.

I could go on for days (well wait, according to Mr. Camping, I don’t have days) so I’ll begin to wrap this up now.

Start from the beginning, stop reading this blog (but come back soon!), and do something bold, or meek, flamboyant or minimalist. Just. Do. SOMETHING!
