You’re Invited: “Feminist Enough” NYC Filming

By  |

Shannon Washington, creative visionary and co-founder of one of my favorite online destinations, Parlour Magazine, launched the Feminist Enough project in late 2012/2013 with hopes of igniting a breath of fresh, fly air when it came to women of color and feminism. And just like that, it worked! The videos were shared on a scale that Shannon could not have imagined, sparked plenty of talk and showed that there really is a need for this content. The goal of the project is two-fold:

1. To actively show and embrace the intersection of feminism and culture when it comes to black and brown women.

2. To promote contemporary, positive and dynamic images of black and brown women that younger women and men can relate to in hopes to open their minds to embrace feminism and/or it’s personal and social value.

And unofficially….to show that feminism is for everyone.

The project is comprised largely of unscripted video testimonials from a variety of women edited down into quick, shareable videos and “quoted” art work:

So, this is where you come in. Shannon is inviting In Her Shoes readers to be included in this space for the first half of 2014. If you’re in the New York City area and would like to participate, the shoot will take place on Saturday, February 15th from 1pm to 5pm in the DUMBO section of Brooklyn. Kindly email feministenough@gmail.com to confirm and you will receive further information. According to Shannon, filming days are HELLA FUN and yes, guys are welcome!

As a New York City storyteller, filmmaker, digital content creator, and PR strategist, Renae Bluitt created "In Her Shoes" to empower and enlighten women committed to realizing their dreams.
