Tug of War

By  |

Advertising, love songs, friend’s advice, motivational speeches, the media, intense music lyrics, and social media prophets are just a few of the many influences that bombard us on a daily basis. With thousands of outside forces constantly fighting for your attention it’s sometimes a tug of war to keep a steady  focus, emotional balance or even just a clear outlook on life. Here are a few tips on how to sift through the debris of your mind:

Lay the Foundation: Just like building a sturdy house the same goes with building an unbreakable mindset. Set your mind with non-negotiable morals or standards for yourself that you refuse to waiver from. By knowing what you will not do or accept, you set the groundwork for your thoughts and actions.

You’re the Captain: Take it back to grade school days when you were the captain of the dodgeball team. Remember how you were ultra selective in picking the best players for your undefeated team? The same goes for your mentality. Only allow positive and empowering thoughts that you’ve hand picked to flow through your mind.

Change Your Filter: Your Brita isn’t the only thing that needs to be changed every few months. It’s time to revamp and clear out all of that personal baggage we subconsciously hold on to. Emotional and mental clutter may be blocking your true vision. Every couple weeks or so take a step back and evaluate yourself and see if you’re staying true to YOUR vision.

Our attention is always being pulled left and right, take time to hush everyone’s opinions and allow your own thoughts to flow freely. Sometimes pulling away from all the commotion that constantly surrounds us will give us the answers we’re searching for or even trying to avoid. Taking control of your thoughts will allow peace to seep into your mind. It’s time to win this battle. Tug of war anyone?
