Hip Hop 4 Life Founder, Tamekia Flowers-Holland

On June 23rd, 2012 at Long Island University (Brooklyn Campus) Lutney Hall, Founder of Hip Hop 4 Life Tamekia Flowers-Holland hosted her annual Shades of Beauty Women of Inspiration Brunch & Awards Ceremony. The fundraiser event recognized and honored phenomenal women and girls who positively impact their community, personify self-esteem and self-respect, and continue to be an inspiration to girls everywhere. 150 women and girls were in attendance and some of the honorees included Michaela Angela Davis, Adrienne White (Disney), and Celebrity DJ Deja Vu.

Why: The statistics speak for themselves. Over 75% of girls with low self-esteem report engaging in negative activities such as eating disorders, cutting, smoking or drinking when feeling bad about themselves.
