In Pics: In Her Shoes + ESSENCE Magazine Present “The Beauties & Brains Behind the Brands II”
As many of you may know, I proudly celebrated an In Her Shoes’ milestone – the blog’s 5th anniversary – on Sunday, April 6th with “The Beauties & Brains Behind the Brands II” presented in partnership with ESSENCE Magazine! The well-heeled affair, which drew over 200 dream-driven women to Galapagos Art Space in DUMBO, Brooklyn, was the second installment of the highly anticipated event series. Guests shopped the first ever In Her Shoes Marketplace, indulged in savory cupcakes compliments of Tipsy Tasty and experienced a lively and inspiring panel discussion moderated by yours truly and featuring: Anthony Dickey of Hair Rules, Demetria Lucas of A Belle in Brooklyn and BRAVO’s Blood, Sweat & Heels, Claire Sulmers of Fashion Bomb Daily and Latham Thomas of Mama Glow.
Baby Girls Nails, a group of young Brooklyn entrepreneurs whose stoop-based nail business was featured on In Her Shoes, took the stage and stole the show. As recipients of my blog’s first ever “Aspiring Fly Female Entrepreneur” award, the young ladies brought the entire room to tears. In addition to receiving awards, the baby go-getters were also presented with an internship with Polish Bar of Brooklyn from the shop’s owner, Tricia Lee.
Shining light on the ambition and talents of our young girls means everything and we must encourage them, as our future leaders, to think and dream big. From the moment we met, Baby Girls Nails truly touched my heart and I knew they had to be a part of my blog’s 5 year celebration. While they are officially the youngest girls I’ve ever featured, their passion and love for what they do resonates with fly female entrepreneurs of all ages.
Special thanks to our gift bag sponsors: ESSENCE, Pantene, Hair Rules, Ouidad and EDEN BodyWorks. To EVERYONE who contributed their time, talents and love to the success of this event, I thank you. And last but not least, a HUGE thanks to ESSENCE for joining me as the event’s Presenting Sponsor.
It’s Wednesday and I’m still on a post-event high! Following is a sneak peek into how truly beautiful the day was…
