Hey, ladies! It’s Tasha Strong of Style Mayvin. Last night I had the pleasure of attending the end of the season session of Amber Magazine’s “Survival Secrets of Game Changers” for In Her Shoes. The exclusive women’s empowerment event was held at the UniWorld Group offices in Brooklyn, New York and offered women the opportunity to network amongst themselves as movers and shakers, entrepreneurs and aspiring entrepreneurs. The guest for the evening was Alexandria Wilkis Wilson, Co-Founder of The Gilt Group, who’s energetic personality kept us engaged and inspired. Wilson and her partner came on the scene in 2007 and made a huge splash in the retail industry as explained in their new book, “By Invitation Only: How We Built Gilt and Changed the Way Millions Shop.” The book’s subtitle was further proven when we were asked how many in the room were already members of Gilt Group. Needless to say, well over half of the attendees eagerly raised their hands!

With a one-on-one, interview style conversation moderated by Monique Nelson, CEO of UniWorld Group, Wilson was gracious in sharing a few secrets to the success of her business. One great piece of advice she offered was, “Don’t be afraid to constantly tweak and change your business model.” As technology, the economy, and the business world in general continues to change, we as entrepreneurs must also be open to change when necessary to promote the growth of our companies. The sharing of information throughout the night was the perfect example of combining business with pleasure and certainly left me countless inspirational thoughts and ideas to run with.

Many thanks to Amber Magazine for hosting such an awesome discussion!
