What do you get when you combine THE flyest vintage wear ever with 90s-themed, one-of-a-kind online shopping? None other than Shop LIONESS. Determined to make browsing the ‘net for additions to your (already overflowing) closet a true experience, Shop LIONESS was launched by Jacque Amadi in October 2012. I had an opportunity to connect with the young and beyond fabulous style maven as she begins curating her online boutique for spring. Get to know her and the inspiration behind her fashion forward vision:

Why she launched…
I found myself spending hours thrifting, taking photos for my style blog, and tweaking the appearance of the blog…but I also found myself broke with no desire to get a minimum wage job (plus I love big hair and didn’t want to change it for a job). That’s when I decided to take all my hobbies and create a job for myself. If I was going to make minimum wage anyway I figured I’d have fun doing it. This past December I graduated and decided to really throw myself into this!

The biggest challenge faced…
The most challenging part was prioritizing! I had been featured on the Fashion Bomb Daily at one point which wiped out my store. Everything sold out, and I had so many assignments due…I spent a lot of sleepless nights preparing each package and answering emails between tests, papers, and homework. Prioritizing was tough because school (& interning and volunteering) was super important but customers were also. It was hard to succeed at one thing without the others suffering.

A slight obsession with the 90s…
I love everything about the 90s, especially how I could turn on the TV and see people like Hilary Banks, or Moesha, or Denise Huxtable. Back then there were so many kinds of black people on TV and in entertainment in general so I have a fun time looking back and I know others do too. Overall though, I really want Shop LIONESS to be a place for black women like myself who like indie and vintage styles. Other stores that market to us aren’t really my style and the shops that are my style don’t connect to me. I want Shop LIONESS to bridge that gap. Visit www.shoplioness.com today and tell ’em In Her Shoes sent ya!
