Meet Miss Kamari

By  |

As some of you may have noticed, there were a couple of entries posted last week by In Her Shoes contributor, Kamari Guthrie. I’m sure you’ve questioned who this person is and why I haven’t mentioned her so let me first apologize for being rude. I wanted to make sure I gave Miss Kamari the “proper” introduction she deserves! In Her Shoes readers, meet Kamari C. Guthrie. Kamari, meet the In Her Shoes fam!

Now that we’ve gotten that out the way, where should I begin? I crossed paths with Kamari last year this time through a mutual friend. She was finishing up her last semester at Syracuse University and like any strategic soon-to-be-grad, was looking to build her network and identify career opportunities. Miss Kamari made the trek from Jersey to Brooklyn on a cold winter afternoon and I was immediately taken in by her warm & sunny disposition, professionalism, and impressive follow-up skills. While I knew that I wanted to join forces with Kamari at some point, I wasn’t sure how so we kept in touch throughout the year and kept each other abreast of moves we were making professionally. Enter In Her Shoes

I’m proud to say that in less than two months, In Her Shoes has received an overwhelming amount of positive feedback…more than I expected to be quite honest! That said, I realized early on that I would need assistance keeping up with interview requests and updating content while simultaneously nurturing my first born (Crush Media).

Kamari reached out to let me know how much she loved In Her Shoes and I immediately knew that she was just the help I needed! As a recent grad and future fly female entrepreneur, Kamari could offer a fresh perspective on a young professional’s life leading up to entrepreneurship.

Kamari graduated from Syracuse University’s S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications in 2008 with a Bachelor of Science in public relations and a mission to one day develop her own brand. She currently works in the beauty industry for a public relations agency focusing on marketing to women. An unashamed Jersey girl, she has big dreams of taking America’s biggest cities by storm on the road to founding her own multimedia corporation.  With a passion for language and commitment to serving others, Kamari fears nothing but a pair of shoes that can’t support her stride!

Other Kamari Tidbits:

  • Interned at TVT Records in Urban Promotions and at Atlantic Records in Urban Marketing, working for various artists and music moguls including Kevin Liles, T.I., Lil’ John, and Gym Class Heroes
  • Taught second, third and fourth graders in inner city schools as a college work-study job
  • Dreams of: opening a multimedia company with charity component to serve underprivileged children in under-acknowledged corners of our country
  • Random fact: Self-professed shopaholic/beauty junkie

She’s fab, right? I’m definitely appreciative of the help Kamari will provide as we take In Her Shoes to the next level.

Welcome aboard, Miss Kamari!
