Don’t you just love it when life comes full circle? In 2009, I wrote a post titled “Missing Mara Brock Akil.” This year, I interviewed the fly female entrepreneur for Jones Magazine’s first ever “Best in Beauty” issue!

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Let’s be clear, Mrs. Akil is ab-so-lute-ly FAB. Chatting with her was truly like catching up with an old girlfriend. Cool as a fan, smart, and sweet, Mara is a shining example of how following your dreams leads to your best life.

As if interviewing Mara wasn’t enough, I also had an opportunity to get into the beautiful mind of Susan Akkad, Estee Lauder’s Sr. Vice President of Corporate Diversity Marketing. As the historic brand’s secret weapon, Akkad has left her mark on some of the beauty industry’s biggest sellers including MAC, Clinique, Lancome, and Origins.
