Black is the New Black?

By  |

While catching up on some of my blog reading this weekend, I came across a very interesting CNN clip featured on The Black Snob. It’s amazing how one man’s presidency and influence can have such a positive impact on a country that (in my opinion) has been stuck in the 60’s for years. Take a look at this CNN piece detailing the search for “Obama look-a-likes” – be it Barack, Michelle, Sasha or Malia – and how their presence can impact the modeling industry which is often criticized for Black under-representation.  Looks like black is finally the new black…

As a New York City beauty PR strategist, Renae Bluitt created "In Her Shoes" to empower and enlighten women committed to realizing their dreams.

What’s sad about this, is that so many of us black folks have been living this life for years, but that was never shown to the masses for whatever reason. I grew up with two educated parents in a middle class environment, and went to private school. Most of my friends grew up in the same environment. Now it’s like it’s “en vogue” and some new thing. I LOVE that President and First Lady Obama are showing that black love is real and genuine and possible. It’s the first time that I have ever been truly interested and excited about the political process. But it’s also a slap in the face when the media makes it like it’s the “in thing” now. Being black has ALWAYS been en vogue..Wake up America!!!
